Welcome to the Indiana Buddhist Center
About the Indiana Buddhist Center
The Indiana Buddhist Center is a federally registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Buddhist institute located in central Indiana. Classes on Meditation and Tibetan Buddhism in the lineage of His Holiness the Dalai Lama are offered regularly along with other special events. Most activities are held in Indianapolis. Our resident teacher, Geshe Jinpa Sonam of Drepung Gomang Monastery, is currently in India, where he must complete the visa application process so that he can return to the U.S. The members of IBC are continuing to host activities at the center, while working very hard on the legal processes necessary to bring Geshe-la back to the United States. Geshe-la is doing very well in India and sends everyone his best wishes (check out our Updates page for more details). After paying for Geshe-la's travel expenses and legal fees accrued to date, our current legal fund balance has dropped to $1,200. According to our initial legal fee estimate, we will need to raise an additional $3,000 to cover remaining attorney and visa application fees. If you have the ability and compassion, we would deeply appreciate your further assistance supporting our teacher's return to the United States. Geshe-la's wisdom, integrity, dedication and selflessness are beyond compare and of immeasurable benefit. Please help us return this gift to the Midwest! You can donate online by clicking the link below, by mail to our center, or in person at any IBC event. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.

May the virtue accumulated in viewing this web site cause all sentient beings to cease suffering and realize complete happiness in this life.

Not long before his death, the great historian Arnold Toynbee was asked to name what he considered to be most significant event or phenomenon of the 20th century. It was not one of the great world wars, nuclear fission, television, or the computer. It was, he said, "the coming of Buddhism to the West."
