About the event

The IBC monks will be observing the great Festival of the Buddha’s Turning of the Wheel of Dharma, or Choekhor Duchen, with prayers and offerings next Monday, July 28th from 6-8pm.


Choekhor Duchen is one of the four major Buddhist holidays. It occurs on the fourth day of the sixth Tibetan lunar month and commemorates the day the Buddha turned the Wheel of Dharma for the first time, at Sarnath, by teaching the ‘Four Noble Truths’.


The monks will offer Drug-chu-ma, a sixty-fold ritual cake offering that requires invocation and propitiation of one of the most compassionate and powerful deities—Lord Vajrabhairava (Jigjey). This ritual is dedicated to the fifteen directional protector deities and minion guardians in the Pure Land of Vajrabhairva, who are called upon to help in our eradication of all evil forces and influences.
