Tenzin Namgyal

Tenzin Namgyal, our special TenamWe are very fortunate to have Tenzin Namgyal as our translator. As Buddhism spread from India to Tibet, it was the translators that made it possible for the new people to learn, making their position extremely valuable. Historically, the translators were very learned in their own right. Continuing the tradition on Monday nights we have "Tenam".

Tenam has completed his first Year of his Master's Degree in Buddhist Philosophy in 1998 from the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (a Tibetan university in Sarnath, Varanasi India). Under the "Educational Exchange Program" between five colleges (University of Massachusetts, Amherst College, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College and Hampshire College) and Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, he continued his education at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA. At Hampshire College he attained a Bachelor's Degree in "Human Rights and Law".

While at Hampshire, Tenam visited the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies twice as an assistant staff member and interpreter for the Educational Exchange Program.

Tenam is also a volunteer for International Tibet Independence Movement (ITIM). Tenam is employed as an interpreter for the Tibetan Cultural Center (TCC) in Bloomington for weekend dharma teachings.

We are very fortunate that he has agreed to help interpret for us.
