Membership Qualifications and Benefits

Many people ask, "What do I have to do to become a member of IBC?"

Beautiful flower grow even from the muck of a swampAll that is required to become a member of the Indiana Buddhist Center is a deep wish to lead a life of compassion. However, one need not become a member of IBC to join us in study. Everyone is welcome at all of our study sessions. And, all study sessions are free.

If after studying with IBC for a period of time, you wish to take refuge vows (the first step in actually calling oneself a Buddhist), you can discuss that with Geshe Jinpa.

So, the question becomes, "Why become a member?" The answer is very personal and very different for each person. As you know, IBC is a nonprofit organization that only operates due to the generosity of all those involved. Some wish to create an action to demonstrate their commitment to IBC's goals. Others might wish to generate merit through participation in the group. Still others might simply think it is a good idea to support such a group in the Indianapolis area. Regardless of your motivation, there are great benefits to becoming a member of IBC.

The suggested donation for an annual membership in IBC is $60.00 for an individual; $90.00 for a family. However, while we do depend on donations to run the center, finances are never our primary goal. If you have a strong desire to become a member but are not financially able at this time, please feel free to discuss your wishes with one of the board members. The condition of your heart is more important than the condition of your pocketbook.
