Eight Verses for Training the Mind [AUDIOBOOK] (Audio Cassette)
At the invitiation of the Conservancy for Tibetan Art and Culture in Washington, DC, His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave a one-day teaching and commentary on the Eight Verses for Training the Mind to over five thousand Western and Tibetan students. These verses were transmitted to His Holiness when he was a small boy, and he has recited them every day since then as part o his personal practice.
His Holiness began the day by stressing the importance of implementing the teachings in daily life and went on to cover the complete fundamentals of Buddhist thought and practice. Then drawing from personal experience in working with these teachings, His Holiness gave a profound and succinct commentary on the entire Eight Verses.
The Four Noble Truths (Audio Cassette)
by His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama
"Without the knowledge and experience of the Four Noble Truths, it is impossible to practice Buddha Dharma" -- H.H. the XIV Dalai Lama
How does an ordinary person become a Buddha, an enlightened one, a fully awakened, omniscient and compassionate human being, someone who has realized the meaning of existence? This is the central question of Buddhism. In his first teaching after his enlightenment, the Buddha presented the world with his answer. It consisted of the Four Noble Truths:
- The truth of suffering.
- The truth of the origin of suffering.
- The truth of the cessation of suffering.
- The path that leads to the cessation of suffering.
In July 1996, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lma gave two days of teachings on the Four Novle Truths at the Barbican Hall in London. This was the first time he had given these teachings in the West.
The Power of Compassion [AUDIOBOOK] (Audio Cassette) by Tenzin Gyatso, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama
The audio version is abridged so you don't get to hear
everything that
is in the book version.
It is read by Sir Derek Jacobi, who has a wonderfully soothing and
expressive voice, allowing him to
deliver the Dalai Lama's messages with the sensitivity they
deserve.
This audio contains messages on many topics other
than compassion, but perhaps all the issues are meant to relate back to
the main topic. Even if you are not Buddhist I think
this is worth listening to as it will broaden your horizons and might
give you some new ideas. -- Kelly Hunt, Texas
